Your Omega protection has been stolen. Attempt to escape the first signs of madness, in a hard, unforgiving, 2D platformer. Inspired by classics such as Manic Miner and Jet Set Willy. Face the darkness, escape The Madness.

Facing The Madness
Completing each difficulty level (Easy, Normal and Madness) in order will unlock power-ups that will help you with the next difficulty. Along the way you will earn the ability to use shields and even see helpful echos from the past... But it's likely you will still fail.
Beating The Madness and reaching the "true ending" is the ultimate goal, but it is rare anyone ever truly escapes madness...
Somewhere within, the true story of Ma Sadness hides from you, the pleasure of standing around in the rain is rewarded, the guilt of cheating your way through is just six keys away, and the exhilaration of beating something harder than Darkeater Midir awaits you.

Features:

  • Easy Difficulty - Face The Madness with the help of a single use, always on shield. It will make things a little easier....
  • Normal Difficulty - Face The Madness with three lives and escape both normal and dark curse level variations
  • Madness Difficulty - Face The True Madness with just one life. Play through The Madness level variations and DIE
  • Three types of visors to unlock. The first will allow you to activate a shield, the second will let you see past echos, and the third will allow you to reach the true ending
  • Three unique endings
  • Puzzle levels & normal levels (some levels will require you to find the safest route, some will require a specific route. Watch those enemy patterns and plan your next move carefully!
  • Hidden levels and hidden paths
  • Two display modes - Clean & Glow (Glow may help you with some levels!)
  • Soundtrack by "Last Child Left"
  • 10 achievements that give true bragging rights!

I finally got all ten acheivements last night; well happy! The Madness mode is HARD but worth it to see the true ending (spoiler: to see the true ending just start playing the game on any level after beating Madness mode). This game took me right back to those difficult but awesome games I grew up with on the Atari800 and ZXSpectrum. Fantastic! (Although I am pretty sure none of those games had a story as dark as this, lol)

Thanks Mike!

Will be grabbing your games tomorrow and having a play!

Considering getting this, how many buyers so far? :)

Hi!,

thank you for you interest!

Sales are around 100 or so on Steam and 8 here, so far.

It's been a good day today for game dev and it's always great to get a comment, so, if you do feel like buying the game, hold off for an hour or so and I'll run a bundle of my games for you :)

I recommend "Super Alien Sniper - Super Realistic Simulator" if you are in the mood for a bit of silliness :)

Thank you for your response. I did look at your games but I have had my eye on Am Madness for a while. I grew up playing Jet Set Willy on the Amstrad CPC 664 and the nostalgia feel is definitely there. I feel it's hard to find games in this outdated style but if you do have any favourites to recommend I would appreciate it. In any case, I am aspiring developer myself playing around with pico-8. If I may ask, what engine have you used for your game? Thanks for your reply once again, greetings from Greece.

No problem!

I used Godot 3 for Am Madness, it was my first real attempt at game dev, so there are flaws here and there, but I highly recommend Godot as a starting point for development.
